5-Chloro-2-fluorobenzoyl chloride is a nucleophilic, anhydrous, homocoupling agent that is used in the synthesis of organic compounds. 5-Chloro-2-fluorobenzoyl chloride is typically synthesized by reacting anhydrous potassium carbonate with 2-chloro-5-fluorobenzene in the presence of anisole and thionyl chloride. This reaction produces a mixture of products that are separated by fractional distillation. The product can be purified by crystallization or recrystallization from chloroform and hexane. 5-Chloro-2-fluorobenzoyl chloride reacts with membranes to produce proton conductivity and acid groups. This compound has been shown to be a monomer in photochemical reactions.
