4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride is a methyl sulfone that can be used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in rats induced with carrageenan. This compound has also been found to suppress the activity of enzymes such as phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase, which are involved in inflammatory responses. 4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride is soluble in organic solvents, making it easy to synthesize. This compound also reacts readily with activated carbon, absorbing infrared radiation at wavelengths between 3 and 8 μm.
