3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzotrifluoride is an electrophile that can be used to synthesize a variety of compounds. It is used in the synthesis of triclosan and other halogenated compounds. This compound reacts with chlorine, leading to the formation of 3-chloro-4-fluoroaniline. 3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzotrifluoride is also used as a solvent in organic reactions. 3CFTF can react with nitro groups in aromatic rings to form a traceless intermediate, which is then hydrolyzed by hydrogen fluoride to form the corresponding amine. This reaction can be used for the synthesis of phosphonium salts, such as those found in pharmaceuticals and pesticides.
