It has been shown to inhibit the replication of a number of viruses, including HIV and influenza virus. N-Chloroacetyl-L-tryptophan has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on intestinal sodium taurocholate, which is involved in fatty acid metabolism. This compound is a cyclic peptide with a lactam structure that contains a trifluoromethyl group. The kinetic data for this compound was obtained by measuring the rate of hydrolysis of L-tryptophan by pepsin at pH 2.5 and 37°C.
