This molecule has been shown to bind with the cation channel of the nerve cells in the trigeminal nerve and inhibit their function. The inhibition of this channel leads to reduced sensitivity to pain. 4-Chlorocinnamide is also a precursor in the synthesis of stilbene derivatives, which are used as anticancer drugs.
