3-Chloropropionyl chloride is a pyrimidine compound that reacts with various chemicals. It is reactive and has been found to be toxic to the heart in animal studies. 3-Chloropropionyl chloride has been used as a reagent for the conversion of amides, esters, and thioesters, and for the synthesis of aminopyrimidines. The enzyme responsible for this reaction is basic fibroblast growth factor. 3-Chloropropionyl chloride has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines. This compound also exhibits antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger when used in vitro.
