(1R, 2S)-Cis-2-methoxycyclopentan-1-ol is a reactive epoxide that is used as a synthetic intermediate. It is synthesized by the reaction of styrene and cyclopentene oxide in the presence of a base. The product can be converted to other epoxides, such as ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, by using different reagents and conditions. The use of organocatalysts, such as piperidine, has been shown to increase the yield of this reaction. This epoxide has been proposed for use in agrochemical applications.
