5-Carboxythiophene-2-boronic acid is a hydroxamic acid that has been shown to have potential as an efficient and selective inhibitor of the histone deacetylase enzyme. This compound is also able to inhibit other hydroxamic acids, which are known to be efficient acceptors in organic photovoltaic devices. 5-Carboxythiophene-2-boronic acid has been found to have a red shift in cyclic voltammetry, which may be due to its resonance stabilization. 5-Carboxythiophene-2-boronic acid also has potential applications for use in the systematic study of hydroxamic acids.
