1-Chloro-2-Fluoro-3-Nitro-5-(Trifluoromethyl)Benzene is an analog of 1-chloro-2,4,6,8-tetrafluoroanthracene. Nitrosation of the chlorinated benzene with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid in the presence of sulfuric acid gives 1,2,4,5,6,7,8-hexachlorodibenzofuran. In this reaction the chlorine atom is replaced by a nitro group. The reaction proceeds through a cyclization reaction to form a benzimidazole ring. This process is termed anomalous chlorination because it does not follow the normal pattern that would be expected for substitution reactions. The product can also be obtained by reacting the chlorinated benzene with sodium hydroxide in ethanol to give 2-[1'-chloro(trifluoromethyl)benzoy
