Dimethyl aminoacetonitrile (DMAC) is a chemical reagent and solvent. DMAC is an aliphatic hydrocarbon with the formula CH3CN. This compound is a colorless liquid with a faint odor, which can react violently with water. DMAC has been shown to be an effective polymerization initiator for polyesters and polyurethanes. It has also been used as a solvent in analytical chemistry, polymer synthesis, and organic synthesis reactions. DMAC can cause health effects such as pulmonary edema, respiratory paralysis, or death when inhaled.
