Phenyl isocyanate (PIC) is a reactive compound that reacts with alcohols, amines, and carboxylic acids to form esters, amides, and urethanes. 2,5-Dimethylphenyl isocyanate can be synthesized by reacting phenol with an excess of phosgene. This compound has been shown as a substitute for benzene in the production of phenyl isocyanate.
