Trans-2,5-Dimethylpiperazine is a member of the amine group. It is a colorless gas with a strong odor. The compound has conformational properties that are similar to those of nitroalkanes and experimental solubility data show that it is soluble in water. Trans-2,5-Dimethylpiperazine has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The compound also has an amide bond with sulfonic acid groups and can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. Trans-2,5-Dimethylpiperazine has been shown to inhibit chloride ion uptake by cells and may be useful in treating bacterial infections.
