Delta Octalactone is an organic compound that belongs to the group of glycol ethers. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor, which can be found in many essential oils such as nepeta cataria and methyl anthranilate. Delta octalactone has been detected in soil samples at concentrations of up to 4.8 ppm and has been shown to be a metabolite of ethyl formate and ethyl decanoate. The extraction efficiency for delta octalactone using solid-phase microextraction was found to be around 50%. This data was obtained by comparing the amount of delta octalactone extracted from a test sample relative to the amount extracted from a blank sample. The structure of delta octalactone can be determined by mass spectrometric detection, which involves ionization, fragmentation, and identification of molecular weight or chemical formula.
