It has been shown to be a potent antiproliferative agent and has been found to inhibit hepg2 cell growth in vitro. This compound was also found to inhibit cancer cells, including mcf-7. 2,4-Diamino-5-nitropyrimidine binds nucleophilic sites on proteins and inhibits enzymes involved in DNA synthesis. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to cell death by preventing the production of new proteins needed for cell division.
