(1E)-2-Diazonio-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-{[(2E,6E)-8-[hydroxy(phosphonooxy)phosphoryl]oxy}-2,6-dimethyl-2,6-octadien-1-yl]oxy}-1-propenoic acid (DMAT) is a cytosolic prenyl transferase inhibitor that has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of human lymphocytes. DMAT displays structural similarity to other known inhibitors of prenyl transferases such as geranyl diphosphate and farnesyl diphosphate. DMAT binds to the subunits of the prenyl transferase enzyme and prevents its interaction with its substrate. This leads to the inhibition of isoprenoid compound modifications and an accumulation of prenyl groups.
