(2,3-difluorophenyl)methanol is a reactive molecule with high specificity and high concentrations. It has been used in assays to determine the concentration of 4-bromobenzyl alcohol, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of a number of pharmaceuticals. (2,3-difluorophenyl)methanol has been modified by reacting it with 2-fluoro-1,4-phenylene diisocyanate to produce a reactive polyurethane polymer that flips over at room temperature. This modification was shown to be useful for the study of protein translation by crystallography. The compound also has pharmacokinetic properties that can be determined through kinetic analysis.
