1,3-difluoro-2-iodobenzene is a non-selective fluorinating agent that can add fluorine to both aromatic and aliphatic carbons. It is useful for the preparation of substituted phenyls and alkylbenzenes. The 1,3-difluoro-2-iodobenzene has a high reactivity in the presence of lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) and triphenylphosphine oxide (PPh). The reaction with LDA is very fast because it dissociates into its ions. 1,3-Difluoro-2-iodobenzene reacts with PPh to produce an intermediate product called triphenylphosphonium fluoride.
