Dansyl-Gly-Cys-Val-Leu-Ser-OH is a substrate for this enzyme, which catalyzes the conversion of prenyl pyrophosphates to farnesyl pyrophosphate. The biological function of this peptide is not well understood, but it may be involved in cholesterol synthesis or cellular signaling. This peptide binds to cell membranes and has been shown to have a fluorescent property. Dansyl-Gly-Cys-Val-Leu-Ser OH can also bind to peptides and proteins, including the protein receptor for the HIV virus (CD4).
