Diethylene glycol p-toluenesulfonate is a gold nanoparticle skeleton that has been processed to be soluble. The carbonyl group on the molecule is an acceptor for fatty acids, which are molecules with hydroxy groups and amines. This molecule binds these two components through hydrogen bonding, forming supramolecular complexes. These complexes can be used in devices, such as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Diethylene glycol p-toluenesulfonate was also shown to bind to naphthol, a monotosylate.
