4-[(2,6-Dichlorobenzyl)oxy]-3-ethoxybenzaldehyde (4-DBE) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that has a pleasant odor and can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of pesticides. The compound has been shown to be an amino acid receptor, which is important for detecting small amounts of amino acids in human blood. 4-DBE shows high affinity for glutamate receptors, which are metabotropic glutamate receptors. It also reacts with benzene and other aromatic compounds, forming trimers and dihedrals. The detection method is based on the spectrum of this substance.
