2,5-Dihydroxybenzohydrazide is a phenolic compound that is found in plants and is a derivative of hydroquinone. It has antioxidant properties and can be used as a reagent in chemical synthesis. 2,5-Dihydroxybenzohydrazide has been shown to have antimicrobial effects against P. aeruginosa and other bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It also has the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro through cytotoxicity by carbonyl radicals. 2,5-Dihydroxybenzohydrazide exhibits liquid chromatographic properties that make it suitable for reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
