2,3-Dichloro-6-nitrobenzaldehyde is a nitrated compound that is used in the synthesis of anagrelide. It is also used in the synthesis of other compounds such as cycloalkylated nitriles and bromoacetic acid esters. 2,3-Dichloro-6-nitrobenzaldehyde has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme DNA gyrase. This inhibition prevents bacterial replication and leads to cell death. It can also inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. 2,3-Dichloro-6-nitrobenzaldehyde has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity and can inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
