Dimethyl (2E,2'E)-3,3'-(1,4-phenylene)bisacrylate is a monomer that can be polymerized by chain growth. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 65°C. Dimethyl (2E,2'E)-3,3'-(1,4-phenylene)bisacrylate is reactive and polymerizes readily in the presence of radiation or heat to form polymers. Dimethyl (2E,2'E)-3,3'-(1,4-phenylene)bisacrylate has been used to produce polymers with high molecular weights and it undergoes crystallization at -40°C. The infrared spectrum of dimethyl (2E,2'E)-3,3'-(1,4-phenylene)bisacrylate is characterized by two bands at 1705 cm-1 and 1670 cm-1.
