(3,4-Dibromothiophene-2,5-diyl)bis(trimethylsilane) is a perfluorinated benzothiophene that binds to selenophenes through carbon-fluorine bonds. This compound has been shown to have good thermal stability and low volatility. It is a fluorinated analogue of the thiophenes, which are well known for their electron withdrawing properties. The 2,5-dibromo group in the molecule provides good solubility in organic solvents and enables this compound to be used as an intermediate for other compounds.
