Diethylmethoxyborane (DEMB) is a natural compound that belongs to the class of organoboranes. It has been shown to inhibit a number of enzymes, including cyclohexane-ring hydroxylase and carbonic anhydrase. DEMB has also been shown to have antioxidant properties, as it reacts with reactive oxygen species and prevents lipid peroxidation by acting as a free radical scavenger. DEMB has been shown to have anticancer effects in vitro against human breast cancer cells. This may be due to its ability to inhibit cyclohexane ring hydroxylase and carbonic anhydrase. The reaction mechanism for the formation of DEMB is intramolecular hydrogen transfer from acetaldehyde and THF, which leads to the formation of the corresponding boronate ester in THF solution. The hydroxyl group on boron acts as a nucleophile and attacks the carbonyl group on acetaldehyde, resulting
