3,3-Dimethylbutan-1-ol is a molecule that contains a hydroxyl group and an acetyl group. It is the major metabolite of acetone. Acetone is synthesized from acetoacetate (a ketone body) in the liver. 3,3-Dimethylbutan-1-ol has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human colon cancer cells in vitro. This molecule also has anti-inflammatory effects by promoting the production of IL-10 cytokine and suppressing proinflammatory cytokine IL-12. 3,3-Dimethylbutan-1-ol has also been shown to have affinity for chronic kidney disease and metabolic disorders.
