2,6-Dichloro-4-methylaniline is an amine that has been used in the manufacture of dyes and pesticides. It is a metabolite of benzyl alcohol, which is itself an intermediate in the synthesis of 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroanisole from 4-nitrobenzaldehyde. The major metabolites of 2,6-dichloro-4-methylaniline are 2,6 dichloro phenol and 4 methylaniline. The metabolic pathways of 2,6 dichloro phenol and 4 methylaniline have been studied using chemical assays on rat liver preparations and human urine samples. These metabolites are excreted through the urine as conjugates with glucuronic acid or sulfate. The major metabolite found in rat liver preparations was 2,6 dichlorophenol glucuronide while in human urine samples it was 4 methylanil
