D-2,4-Diaminobutyric acid dihydrochloride (DDA) is a tritiated uptake blocker that inhibits the uptake of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) by nerve cells. It has been shown to be able to bind specifically to ganglion cells and inhibit their uptake of GABA. DDA has also been found to inhibit the transport of chloride ions in muscle cells, which may lead to a change in pH and cause muscle spasms. This drug is used as an experimental tool in neuroscience research.
