2,6-Dibromo-3-hydroxypyridine is a bromoderivative that is used as a peroxidase substrate. It is an organic compound that contains a pyridine ring and has two bromine atoms on the 3-position. 2,6-Dibromo-3-hydroxypyridine is able to react with glutathione to produce glutathione peroxide. This reaction can be catalyzed by metal ions or other substances such as ferrous ion or thiols. 2,6-Dibromo-3-hydroxypyridine also reacts with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of oxygen to form a colorless product with minimal toxicity. The conformation of this substance can be transoid or dipyridyl depending on the solvent used for the reaction.
