Droxinostat is a small molecule that is structurally related to the hydroxylated analogs of dioxins. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties as well as inhibitory effects on cell growth and tumor formation in mouse hippocampal cells, but it also has cytotoxic effects on prostate cancer cells. Droxinostat is a potent inhibitor of histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes, which are responsible for the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues on histone proteins. The inhibition of HDAC enzymes by droxinostat leads to an increase in the acetylation level of histones H3 and H4, which results in changes in gene expression patterns. Droxinostat can also be used to synthesize peptides with unique amino acid sequences.
