It reacts with diacetamide to produce 2,4-diacetyl naphthalene. This compound can be used as a hydrogen bond donor or acceptor in various reactions such as the cleavage of hydrogen bonds in membranes by phosphine at temperatures over 100°C or the reaction of phosphonium salts at temperatures over 200°C.
