N,N-Diisopropylnicotinamide (DINPA) is a biomolecule with a hydrophobic character that is synthesized by reacting nicotinamide and lithium diisopropylamide. It is soluble in water and has a chemical structure similar to paclitaxel. DINPA is an antituberculous agent that inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by binding to the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR). DINPA is also effective against Mycobacterium avium complex and other bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin, including Streptococcus pneumoniae. DINPA has been shown to be more potent than sodium salicylate in inhibiting DHFR.
