2,2-Diethoxypropanenitrile (DEPC) is an organic chemical compound with the formula CH2OCH2CN. The name DEPC comes from the diethoxyphenyl group connected to two ethoxy groups. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in many solvents. DEPC has been used as a solvent for preparing other chemicals, such as pesticides and pharmaceuticals, and as a reagent in organic synthesis. This chemical has been shown to slow down production of tyrosine kinase, which may be the cause of its effect on autoimmune diseases. DEPC also reacts with proteins in cells and can be used to coat surfaces in order to protect them from biological material or biological molecules such as enzymes or antibodies.
