It is also found in the plants Triticum aestivum and Camphora. 6,7-Dihydro-1H-indol-4(5H)-one was first synthesized by Friedel and Crafts acylation of ethanolamine with chloroacetyl chloride in the presence of fluorine. The resulting product was then converted to its hydrochloride salt. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and has also been studied for use as a treatment for asthma.
