2,6-Dihydroxy-3-cyanopyridine is an active form of 2,6-diaminopyridine, a drug that inhibits the enzyme dehydrogenase. This compound is used as a cancer therapy and has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in culture. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in mice. 2,6-Dihydroxy-3-cyanopyridine binds to DNA and inhibits the synthesis of RNA and protein by binding to ribosomes. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on hematologic toxicity caused by radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
