2-(1,1-Dimethylethyl)benzenesulfonamide (2DMS) is a synthetic chemical that inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2. It has been shown to be effective for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, which is often caused by pulmonary artery hypertension. 2DMS inhibits this condition by preventing platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction in the lungs. This drug must be dissolved in a solvent such as benzene or chloroform before being used. It can then be purified using a liquid chromatography system with an evaporative light-scattering detector or a phase chromatography system with a refractive index detector. 2DMS is insoluble in water and must be heated to reflux if it is desired to dissolve it before use.
