2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propylenediamine is a chemical compound that has been used as a chemical intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It has been found to form stable complexes with hydrogen and has been studied for its ability to undergo phase transition at temperatures below what would be expected based on its molecular weight. 2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propylenediamine is also capable of forming stable complexes with hydroxyl groups and nitrogen atoms. This is because it contains a basic structure with an intramolecular hydrogen bond and a coordination geometry that provides an electron pair donor atom that can accept hydrogen bonds. X-ray crystal structures have confirmed this basic structure. 2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propylenediamine is carcinogenic in cell lines for carcinoma cells and has shown anticancer effects when combined with malonic acid.
