Dibutoxymethane is a monosodium salt that has been proposed as a phosphotungstic acid analog. It is a kinetic probe, which means that it can be used to study the kinetics of chemical reactions. Dibutoxymethane is soluble in organic solvents like glycol ethers and fatty acids, making it easy to apply to a substrate film for fluorescence detection. Dibutoxymethane reacts with nitrogen atoms in the substrate film and forms a chelate ligand, which helps bind the probe to the substrate. The stability of this compound under different conditions has also been investigated, including hydrochloric acid and inorganic acid. Hydrochloric acid at pH 3 and inorganic acid at pH 2 were found to be suitable conditions for dibutoxymethane’s stability.
