2,4-Diaminopyridine is a cholinergic drug that is used to treat Parkinson's disease. It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase by binding to its active site, thereby blocking the breakdown of acetylcholine. This inhibition leads to an increase in acetylcholine levels in the brain and an improvement in symptoms of Parkinson's disease. 2,4-Diaminopyridine has also been shown to inhibit other enzymes such as tyrosine hydroxylase and monoamine oxidase. 2,4-Diaminopyridine has been shown to have a plasma concentration of 0.1 μM following oral administration in humans with doses ranging from 50 mg/kg to 300 mg/kg. This drug has been shown to inhibit kinases at concentrations between 1 μM and 100 μM.
