2,3-Dihydro-1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone (THAQ) is a functional group with the chemical formula C14H8O2N2. It is found in dyestuffs and pharmaceuticals. 2,3-Dihydro-1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone has shown anticancer activity against tumors that are resistant to adriamycin and anthracyclines. The reactive groups of THAQ can alkylate DNA and proteins and can be used for nitro groups or dyeing with alizarin. 2,3-Dihydro-1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone has been shown to be an effective agent against cancer cells in vitro by inhibiting topoisomerase II.
