Dimethyl sulfate-d6 is a synthetic, stable isotope of dimethyl sulfate with mass number of 122. It can be used as a chemical ionisation reagent for the production of labelled compounds in animal studies. The alkylation reaction product has been shown to be more stable than the parent compound, which is useful for various applications including synthesis and labeling experiments. Dimethyl sulfate-d6 has been shown to be an effective labeling reagent for propiolic acid and dimetridazole-d3, which are useful in the detection of metabolites in human urine. This compound is typically prepared by reacting methyl iodide with sulfur trioxide.
