1,2-Dichlorobutane is a pentane with two chlorine atoms. It is a colorless liquid that is insoluble in water and has a boiling point of 30 degrees Celsius. 1,2-Dichlorobutane has been shown to have genotoxic effects in the fruit fly, melanogaster. This chemical also reacts in the presence of solutes to form hydrogen chloride and other impurities. The reaction rate of 1,2-dichlorobutane increases with higher temperatures and pressure.
