Dihydromyrcenol is a natural odorant found in different types of plants. It has been used as a model compound to study the mechanisms of odorant binding and detection. Dihydromyrcenol is also an important ingredient for detergent compositions because it can be used to remove fatty acids from clothes. A kinetic study was conducted using solid phase microextraction to measure the rate of the reaction between copper chloride, which is an oxidizing agent, and dihydromyrcenol, which is a reducing agent. The reaction proceeded through hydrogen bonding interactions that led to the formation of copper sulfide.
