3,7-Dimethylgalangin is a chromone derivative that has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in humans. 3,7-Dimethylgalangin inhibits the production of TNF-α by binding to the TNF type 1 receptor and blocking its activation. It also has an inhibitory effect on the expression of amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This compound inhibits bacterial growth in vitro at concentrations of 100 μM or less, and it has been shown to be effective against a number of bacterial strains including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3,7-Dimethylgalangin is found in root powder and can be extracted with ethanol.
