9,10-Dimethylanthracene is a fluorescent molecule that can be used as a fluorescence probe. It has been shown to bind to DNA and RNA with high specificity and affinity. 9,10-Dimethylanthracene has been used in the detection of nucleophilic groups in rat liver microsomes. The fluorescence intensity was found to decrease when the concentration of nucleophiles increased, which showed that it can be used as an indicator for measuring the concentration of nucleophiles in a sample. This molecule has also been used in polymer films for synchronous fluorescence studies.
