Delucemine hydrochloride is a conjugate of the amino acid L-cysteine with the drug delucimine, which is a potent and selective inhibitor of amyloid-β formation. It has been shown to have therapeutic effects on cerebral infarction in rats and Alzheimer's disease in mice. Delucemine hydrochloride has been shown to be biodegradable, making it an ideal candidate for use in diagnostic applications. Delucemine hydrochloride also inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is involved in the degradation of acetylcholine, resulting in an increase in brain levels of this neurotransmitter. This may have potential therapeutic benefits for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease.
