2,2-Dichloro-1-[5-(2-Furanyl)-2,2-dimethyl-3-oxazolidinyl]-ethanone (Tetronic acid) is a herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by blocking the synthesis of chlorophyll. Tetronic acid is used in analytical methods for detecting iron oxides and other compounds in soils and water. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of plants by blocking the synthesis of chlorophyll. Tetronic acid is also an inhibitor of quinoline derivatives and linear regression analysis, which are used as herbicides. Tetronic acid has been shown to have both herbicidal and hydroxide properties, which are used against plants that are resistant to other herbicides. This compound can be synthesized from fatty acids or sodium hydroxide solution.
