- 4,7-Dimethoxyindan-1-one
4,7-Dimethoxy-1-indanone is a nucleophilic compound that can be used to synthesize quinones. This chemical reacts with hydrochloric acid and magnesium to form the diketone. The catalytic reduction of 4,7-dimethoxy-1-indanone yields aldehydes or alcohols. The most common method for the synthesis of 4,7-dimethoxy-1-indanone is by reacting phthalic anhydride with magnesium chloride in the presence of hydrochloric acid. It can also be prepared by demethylation of methyl benzoate with trifluoroacetic acid and quinones as starting materials. Dimethyl sulfate can also be used to form 4,7-dimethoxy-1-indanone from its corresponding ketones. Lastly, this organic chemical can be synthesized from dimethylsulfate and chloroacetaldehyde ester.
