This compound is thought to be metabolized into thymol, caffeic acids, and thymoquinone. These metabolites are thought to be responsible for the antioxidant effects of 2,5-dihydroxy-p-cymene by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting lipid peroxidation.
