2-(Difluoromethoxy)acetic acid is a paramedic that is used to reduce the respiratory rate in patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure. It is administered by inhalation or intranasal administration and is detectable in the blood after an hour of administration. The concentration response curve for 2-(Difluoromethoxy)acetic acid has been studied in humans at concentrations up to 1000 ppm, which caused some preexisting problems but no new adverse effects. With this information, it can be inferred that 2-(Difluoromethoxy)acetic acid may be safe for use as a prehospital medication.
